In my first article I would like to refer to the topic of sailing and generally different ships in miniature
bottles, which were described in MiNiZ 125 (and continue in this edition – Ed.). I will try to present
you some individual bottles with marine themes, but please forgive me if I have mistaken the types
of yachts and ships. This is by definition not easy, because firstly the drawings and photos on the
bottle labels are not very clear and accurate and secondly the terminology of ship types is not
uniform in the world, unfortunately ... Forgive me also for my language mistakes, as my native
language is Polish.
I hope that some photos of my mini bottles will be interesting for you, especially since three of them
come from Hungary, a country without access to the sea, a country with no major sailing traditions,
and yet I managed to buy them in Budapest in 2006.
The first Hungarian bottle is rum,
32% alc, 0.04l, from the company All
Stars Drink KFT, with a drawing of
merchant frigate from around 1750.
The second bottle is Rund Liehovina
35% alc, 0.04l, from the Gyori
company, with the image probably
of Galleon or Carrack, from the time
of medieval explorers. The third one
from Pilis'91 KFT company (37.5%,
40ml.) is quite eloquent in the name
"Vitorlas Szeshes ital", which in
translation can be called
"Outstanding spirit drink". Label
draw shows fishermen with small
sailing fishing boats. The fourth bottle, Etter Williams 42%, is from Switzerland, another European
country without access to the sea. The label shows a fishing boat on Lake Walen in the Swiss Alps.
Now let's go to Scandinavia.
Norway, usually called Viking
country, has produced miniatures
with images of various vessels. All
four bottles shown here are from
Arcus Norway AS. The first bottle
presents a Norwegian frigate from
the early of 19th century. This is a
41.5% spirit drink from the "Linie"
brand. Another bottle, with the
same alcohol content, also of the
"Linie" brand is a drawing of a
frigate on a very choppy sea, also
under the Norwegian flag. The third
bottle is already a classic Viking boat
on the high seas with a single working sail. The last, fourth mini, takes us to modern times. On the
label we see a merchant ship from the mid-20th century, on which huge barrels are loaded. This 40%
spirit drink, like all the other four, is poured into a 50ml glass bottle.
